I just ordered a 1500 gallon chemical tank that weighs in at 500 pounds, and checked the “item will be offloaded and positioned b y drivers” button. They're going to need quite the lift-gate/pallet jack/whatever for this bad boy....

Yes and no. Free workout / comes with the job. Though I did order a 60lb weightvest that shipped from Cali to Va and was delivered in my complex mailbox. The weight bowed down the floor I could see which delivery it was before checking my box for the key.

Whenever I have people do manual labor for me, I’ve always offered drinks while they’re working and a six pack of some decent beer at the end.

I do. Roughly two years ago, when we bought our house we ended up having to buy a new fridge. The cost of the new fridge included delivery. When the delivery truck showed up it was two young guys. They helped me take the door off the old fridge and move it to the garage. I gave them $20 to say thanks. (It would have been nice to tip more, but we just bouya house.)
Dlivery guys who practically throw the package on the steps, ring, and run? Not so much.

Good on you. The people who offered drinks on hot days , mentioned where the bathroom was, etc. w ere always very well taken care of b y my old window washing crew. I think people don't always realize how much of a difference things like that can make.

My wife’s father used to run a removals company. They had a team they called the “Piano Crew”: t hree hulking Tongans who must have been 1000lb of pure muscle between them, and got sent to all the jobs involving big awkward shit.
Sounds like that’s who
you’ll be getting.

They ring/knock? How luxurious
! Countless times I’ve been home and either had no idea something was delivered
, or only knew it was delivered because I saw the truck in the driveway. They usually either toss it on the porch (sometimes over the railing) or barely-on-the-top-step and run back to the truck
. I get that they’re on a schedule, but come on.

The UPS guy is a real MVP. I wasn’t home one day for a tire delivery and he dropped them off in the back of my house in a good spot . Saved my tires from getting stolen out front.

My dad was a truck driver and used to do a lot of medical equipment. Had x ray systems and all kind of shit he had to unload via lift gate. It was honestly his favorite part of the job. If you don't like handling freight, there are plenty of cargo haulers that are dock to dock. So I would somewhat assume if you drive with a lift gate and the equipment to unload, you probably don't hate to unload it haha

Half a lifetime ago I worked in a lumberyard, and had to unload a whole truck of insulation by myself because the driver refused to help. His delivery instructions were for ‘tailgate delivery’, which means moving all the product in the trailer up to the tailgate, then we’d take it from there. He said, “Yeah, I’m not doing that. I’ll be in the sleeper, knock on the door when you’re done.”
I unloaded the truck by myself, with one other guy helping for maybe an hour. Long story short, it took about 4 or 5 hours and I was exhausted after.
I don’t feel bad for delivery drivers, because I’m pretty sure there’s an outside chance they’re not going to do what they’re supposed to anyway.
